"To us, trips feel like we're out doing the things we love with a group of good friends and that's exactly how it is at Hidden Valleys."
- Grant South (Southy)
This is a genuine hiking expedition where we cross from one side of the South Island to the other, while traversing some of the most captivating, remote and spectacular New Zealand scenery on the way.
Our trip starts in the heart of the High Country at Mesopotamia Station. Over the next three to five days we travel over Dennistoun Pass and down into the steep West Coast valleys in the headwaters of the Perth River (Grade 4/5).
Day 1: Travel to St Winifred Hut by a combination of four wheel driving and hiking.
Day 2: Traverse Dennistoun Pass to Bettison Stream campsite on the West Coast. The views from the top of Dennistoun Pass across the Southern Alps are magnificent.
Day 3 option: The first option provides the thrill of a heli-pickup, before being dropped off at the put-in and rafting out, finishing near Whataroa on the West Coast.
Day 3 option: Alternatively, extend the hiking journey by a day, camp at Scone Hut and then raft out the next day.
