"To us, trips feel like we're out doing the things we love with a group of good friends and that's exactly how it is at Hidden Valleys."
- Grant South (Southy)
Brodrick Pass is a two-day Main Divide Crossing linking the Hopkins/Huxley Valleys to the less accessible Landsborough River Valley. The Brodrick Pass covers a range of terrain from beech forests and open river flats to rugged snow-covered mountaintops.
Day 1: Meet at Ohau Lodge early morning. We recommend staying at Ohau Lodge the night before. Travel two hours by 4×4 up the Hopkins Valley to Monument Hut, then the hike from here to Brodrick Hut can take up to 8 hrs depending on river levels.
Day 2: It is an 8-10 hr day over the Main Divide and down into the Landsborough Valley to overnight at Cresswick Flat Hut.
Day 3 Option 1: Raft all the way out to Clark Bluff on the Haast Highway.
Day 3 Option 2: Raft to Harper Bluff Camp and overnight.
Day 4: Raft to the take out at Clark Bluff on the Haast Highway finishing around lunchtime.
“Our trip to New Zealand was magnificent. At the beginning of our planning stage, a friend highly recommended Grant South, (Southy) to guide us in New Zealand. Southy’s passion and love for showing people his native country were evident from the start. But Southy made it even better by designing a trip specifically geared to our personal interests and fitness levels. The highlights of our trip were the Peel Forest and Rangitata gorge area. Hiking and flying around Peel Forest, and kayaking and white-water rafting the Rangitata River, should be experienced at least once (or more) in a lifetime. Southy provided the ultimate adventure with a standard of excellence that surpassed any Guide experience that we had encountered before. Southy and his wife Sue made us feel like we were on a trip with trusted friends, doing what they, and we, love. We will return. Thank you Hidden Valleys!”
