The usual Landsborough River rafting trip is the long standing and well known multi-day trip of the South Island. But when time is short and of the essence, we can give you the best of the Landsborough’s white water rapids in just a day!
The trip begins with a helicopter flight from the road side of the Haast Highway at a point called Clark Bluff, between Makarora and Haast. As we get closer to Creswick Flat you get a jaw-dropping preview of the day ahead. Creswick Flat is where our Brodrick Pass trip descends down.
The remainder of the day is spent with around five hours of rafting, starting with some nice warm-up Grade 3 rapids. At this point you are surrounded by snow capped mountains (yes, even in the middle of summer) and thriving native forest in the lower gorges of the river.
Around lunchtime we hit the main bunch of white water rapids named ‘Hell Fire’ and ‘The Squeeze’. With these behind us, we still have many to negotiate. In early afternoon we pass our usual Day 2 campsite at Harper Bluff and you’ll see for yourself that this is a stunning spot. As the river opens out and the Clark River joins, we get great views back up the valley to the Main Divide, before arriving back to the Haast Highway, our take-out point and finish for the day.
A reasonable standard of fitness and confidence in water is required: a minimum age may apply.
All trips are subject to weather and river conditions for safety reasons. Plane and helicopter flights are weather dependent and decisions for flying conditions are made on the day. All guides are fully licensed professionals, chosen for their skill, knowledge and experience. The quality of your trip is guaranteed by the small group size and personal service provided by Hidden Valleys.
