A bunch of old mates including newlyweds joined us on the Dennistoun Pass tour for a Uni reunion. The perfect way to get away from modern technologies and spend quality time with friends and family. We met the night prior for a bbq at Southys and a de-brief of what was to come; four wheel driving up the Rangitata River, home of Lord of the Rings the Two Towers and heli-rafting on the Perth. Unfortunately weather put the rafting side of this journey off.All in all thoroughly enjoyed by all how ever still a challenge which of course follows with a massive sense of achievement.

Organiser Peter Jex Blake, a farmer from Hawkes Bay and seven other farmers from the same area flew their small planes down for a break away from the farm. We stayed at lake Ohau before setting off on the two day hike over the Broderick Pass. Others flew in by helicopter to met up with the crew for the next two days rafting. They had the time of their lives cruising around experiencing New Zealands most unique back country in a number of different forms of transport. See you all next year on the Waiatoto for some jetboating, hiking and rafting.

This trip put together by Paul..Thanks Paul from the team at Hidden Valleys, always a big job getting groups together for these outings. Slee of our Hidden Valleys Crew did a great job working with Paul on all the logistics.

Pauls group was able to work along side another group all being keen out doors people, this group catered there own trip and navigated themselves over the Main Divide of New Zealands South Island, through Brodrick Pass. Which from all accounts they did well.

The crew were all waiting with smiles on when we arrived into Creswick flat by helicopter with all the rafting gear.

The river flooded over night so there was no rush the next morning to get going. It needed a few hours to drop to a level where we felt comfortable to run the main gorge. It was early afternoon before we were at the main rapids and at those flows it was challenging enough. Our colleges from Queenstown rafting joined us for the second major rapids always good to have safety in numbers.

We had a nice river side camp and relaxing float out.

Look forward to getting out with you guys again next year on the Dennistoun Pass and Perth River, keep in touch.

An amazing bunch of people who have been joining us on the river many times over the years. Cheif organisers of these trips, the ones who have made it all happen, both unfortunately couldn’t make it out with us this year; but were their with us in our thoughts. We look forward to next year, next river and a whole new chapter to add to our memories. Keep in touch team!
